Chapter 1 – Kenya – EFYE

8th of February, it was Saturday, I was at work and the night before I didn’t slept, the first interview to go in eXchange it was about to happen in that day, I didn’t know what to expect, I was thinking of private uncomfortable questions that will put me in difficulty, probably will question my qualities or my CV. I was over thinking because I was so excited that you can’t imagine, I felt I was living again because i didn’t had this feeling for a while.

It’s 1 pm and Nelson connected on Skype, he is the guy who managed all the processes from Kenya and the connection with the NGO. I was so nervous, so willing to embrace the African experience. I didn’t know what to expect. He started to question my reason, my qualities, who am I, what I did, what i do, why Kenya.

6 days after the interview I was accepted to go in Kenya for 2 months, in the moment I saw the AIESEC platform that shown me I was “Matched” I started to bread very hard, with some heart strokes, i felt overwhelmed and the story was becoming real. There is no turning back, just look forward and from that moment I knew that I need to prepare for the experience of my life.

I will go in Kenya in, Chogoria, a town in the east side of the Mount Kenya National Park and 250Km from Nairobi. It’s a really small city with no more then 30000 people. This gorgeous place is known in the area because of the Chogoria Hospital built in 1922 by doctor dr. Clive Irvine.

Being an educational hub, by having many primary and secondary schools, they have NGO’s who help young people to organize and access informal education though international volunteers, like me. I will help EFYE(Eagle’s Fountain YOUTH EDGE) an NGO that seek to provide the ‘fishing rod and not the fish’ for their community and aim to elevate dreams of their youthful members.

Reading EFYE vision made me think we have a common path, to educate the communities we live in to follow their dreams, speak up more and live excited. This is why i think i will do an awesome job there, because it fits with my life vision and my believes. I’m grateful that i’m accepted to go there and live my dream.

I want to share in the end a quote from their Facebook page that impressed me:

As a wise man once put it, “Why should we fear any longer and yet behind us is infinite power, before us is endless possibility, around us is boundless opportunity.” We are driven to end the vicious cycle of poverty, mediocrity and ignorance in the society.

Thank you for reading this and if you want to be part of my story donate or share it!

With a lot of love Tzury >:D<
